(Micro Study 1 link) It is all about getting those LH hand fingers moving fast-through different speed bursts, this time with legato snaps and hammers as well as a nice stretch.

Below is the music for this short video. This idea can be transplanted to any section of music where speed is an object.

Get the dots below with a free download.

KEY Strategy

Slow, then fast; fast, then slow.

With a metronome which then speeds up incrementally. Hit the wall where it breaks apart, drop down (pulse) and start again. Every day for 5 minutes no more, see where you are at the end of a week.

Other Info

Note: LH fingering of the B7 chord is here is a stretch. This fingering is there to facilitate building strength in the little finger-especially with that 1-4 hammer on. This one bar really challenges your little finger, in terms of strength and ability to play legato (pull off or on) and in getting the placement right. A great one bar workout.

Secret

Laser the change.

Your eyes need to be ahead of your fingers when you shift, that way they can pin point the correct fret you are going to, not unlike a laser beam. So nail fret 7 ahead of time with your eyes.

Want More?

Click the link below to the lesson on Villa-Lobos’ Etude No. 2 for more insight into/about arpeggios.

Approaching Etude No. 2 Lesson

Free Download

Click the button and save a PDF copy of the dots.

Micro Study 2

Micro study 2 – B7 arpeggio – kicks off a new series – #6stringinspiration – of short and sweet studies that target very specific musical bars or techniques.
