Micro Study 32 – Left Hand Stretching

This is a left hand only exercise, of which there are four different versions.

Finger Order:

1 2 3 4

strong ——————->weak

This exercise has four levels to it, of which the first two are the easiest!

KEY Strategy

Move one finger at a time and hold the others in place, that is what gets the stretch working.

Think long term here, stretching is not something that will improve on one session or over night. This is a long term goal as you have to deal with the physicality of moving your bones and sinew. As each person is so different, physiologically, so is there ability with this exercise. Go slow! As your body will grow and adapt with you. Be patient.

Other Info

Note: This study uses the left hand only so that maximum concentration can be given to this exercise, which not only improves finger control but also has a bearing on tone production. Practice mindfully.

Secret

Slow and Connected

Move each finger slowly down the fretboard, and then hold. This exercise is more akin to yoga than guitar. So do not rush and keep in mind your limitations, see above. Once you hit a fret you cant stretch beyond, mark it! That is your wall and the goal then is to break through it, with daily repetition.

And Remember: only move the fingers you need to.
