Micro Study 7 – Diminished Arpeggio 2

This is a work out for left hand chord shifts, whilst playing a fast right hand arpeggio pattern. The chord is a diminished chord.

KEY Strategy

Practice in bursts or chunks

It is based on Joe Satriani’s arpeggio run in Tears in the Rain (See below for video). The ability to do a speed burst with the right hand should be practiced in one position before adding the left hand shift. Practice the chord and its various inversions separately until they are mentally secured. Learn to chunk your information, as once you have it up to a fast speed you won’t have time to think about it as individual movements; just as chunks; this time its two chunks in a row.

Other Info

Note: This study is based on a diminished chord which has the ability to be in 4 other keys: G# B D F

Secret

Planting

Know exactly which string you are on, and going to ahead of time with sequential planting. It will increase the speed bursts, especially when one is followed straight away with another chunk of fast finger work.
