Micro study 9 – diminished arpeggio 3, part off a new series – #6stringinspiration – of short and sweet studies that target very specific musical bars or techniques. These are for those who have very little time and want huge gains from tight focused practice ideas.
Micro Study 8 – Diminished Arpeggio 3
This is a work out for left hand chord shifts, whilst playing a fast right hand arpeggio pattern. The chord is a diminished chord.
Relaxed RH with sequential planting
It is based on Joe Satriani’s arpeggio run in Tears in the Rain (See below for video). The ability to do a speed burst with the right hand should be practiced in one position before adding the left hand shift. Practice the chord and its various inversions separately until they are mentally secured. Learn to chunk your information, as once you have it up to a fast speed you won’t have time to think about it as individual movements; just as chunks; this time its three chunks in a row before you are required to shift. Ample time to think and prepare for the shift!
Note: This study is based on a diminished chord which has the ability to be in 4 other keys: G# B D F
Planting slow then fast
Know exactly which string you are on, and going to ahead of time with sequential planting. When there is more than 1 high speed arpeggio, it is a good idea to practice in a group of slow chunks and then a burst of fast chunks. It will increase the speed, especially when one is followed straight away with another chunk of fast finger work.
